Adding External QR Codes

This guide shows you how to register external QR or NFC tags against one of your GiveTap QR campaigns. External tags are ones that a third-party printer (for example Angal) has already produced, so the physical artwork exists before GiveTap knows about them. You paste the tag slugs into GiveTap, GiveTap attaches each one to your campaign, and from then on a scan of that tag opens your campaign's donation page.

Before you start

  • You are signed in to the GiveTap charity dashboard with an Editor or Admin access level. If you cannot see the buttons described below, your account may not have editor rights.
  • You have an existing QR campaign open at its QR codes list (the 'QR ID list' section of a campaign's details page).
  • You have your external tag IDs to hand, supplied by your third-party tag printer. Slugs are case-sensitive, so copy them exactly as given.
  • The slugs (or any full URLs you paste) belong to GiveTap. Only givetap.co.uk donation links are accepted.

Steps

  1. Open the campaign you want the tags attached to and scroll to the 'QR ID list' section. This is the QR codes list for that campaign, where each existing QR is shown in a table with its QR ID, date added, short URL, name, amount raised, QR image and status.
  2. Click the 'Add External QRs' button in the QR ID list header. The 'Register external tags' window opens.
  3. In the large text box, paste your external tag slugs. You can enter one per line, separate them with commas, or both. The window shows examples to follow, such as ex001 on its own, ex002, ex003 on one line, or a full donation URL.

Tip: To add many tags at once, paste a range like ex001-ex050 and GiveTap expands it for you, keeping the same number of digits (so ex001 through ex050). A single range is capped at 1000 tags. Alternatively you can paste a full list of URLs into the box and GiveTap will link them correctly.

Note: Only GiveTap links are accepted - any URL pointing somewhere else is quietly skipped and will not be counted.

  1. Check the preview beneath the box. While your entry is valid it reads 'This will register N tags' and lists the slugs (showing the first five and last five if there are a lot). If it instead says 'No valid slugs detected yet', review what you pasted, as nothing usable has been recognised.
  2. When the count looks right, click the 'Register Tags' button. The button shows a loading state while GiveTap attaches the tags to your campaign.
  3. Read the result. If every tag registered, the window closes and the list refreshes automatically. If some tags failed, the window stays open and shows a 'Registered (N)' summary you can expand with 'Show', plus a 'Failed (N)' list giving the reason for each one (for example a slug that was already in use). Fix the failed entries and submit again if needed.
  4. Back in the QR ID list, confirm your tags appear. A 'Source' filter (All / Internal / External) appears once a campaign has any external tags. Click 'External' to see only your registered tags. With the 'All' filter selected, each external row also shows an 'External' badge next to its QR ID so you can tell them apart at a glance.
  5. Test one tag by scanning it (or opening its donor link from the 'QR' image in the list). It should open your campaign's donation page ready to accept a gift. From then on the tag behaves like any other QR: it contributes to the campaign total, and an editor can end it later using the 'End' button on its row if it ever needs retiring.

You're done when…

  • After clicking 'Register Tags', either the window closed with no failures, or you saw a 'Registered (N)' summary confirming the tags that went through.
  • Your tags appear in the QR ID list, and selecting the 'External' source filter shows them; on the 'All' filter they carry an 'External' badge.
  • Scanning or opening one of the registered tags opens your campaign's donation page and lets a donor give.
