Creating a QR + Card Reader Campaign

What is this campaign type for?

Campaigns created in this section will be available to use in our mobile app ("GiveTap Payments" on the App Store or Play Store) and via our online, speed optimised QR donation flow.

The mobile app works with the following devices:

  • Stripe S700
  • Stripe BBPOS WisePad 3
  • Stripe Tap to Pay on Android or iPhone
  • Square Reader

The mobile app is primarily intended to be used for in-person payments via:

  • Card: credit or debit (contactless or chip & PIN)
  • Wallet payments on smart devices (phones or watches)

The QR donation flow is very flexible and can be used for a wide variety of activities. Our QR codes are commonly used:

  • On collection tins
  • In meetings or faith based ceremonies
  • On the tables at gala dinners
  • On signage in public places
  • In email footers

This donation flow was built to be fast for donors to complete, targetting under 20 seconds. With this in mind, in its default configuration the journey has very little data entry. The idea is to secure the donation and collect Gift Aid data and other opt in details after, hopefully minimising drop off during the donation flow.

Creating a campaign

The campaign creation page is split into different tabs. Each tab, except ‘General’ and 'Pledges'  represents a page within the donation flow for the user. The ‘General’ tab presents options that will modify all pages in the journey, such as colours and the header images.

When modifying a page, the preview on the right will update in real time. The preview provides a representation of what a donor would see when viewing the donation page on  their mobile phone.

Red markers on each tab define which options are missing required values before you can create the campaign.

General

Campaign Name

A name to give your campaign to help you identify it, e.g. 'Fundraising Event October 2024'

Campaign Location

A location to link the campaign with. This can be as specific as you’d like, or ‘National’ if it  doesn’t apply.

Charity Internal Reference

This is an option unique reference that outputs to CSV reports exported from the system. You may wish to put your CRM reference in here.

Footer Text

Text to display as the footer for each page. Often organisations will place a charity or company number here to give donors confidence and validate authenticity.

Colours

A variety of colour modifiers here can help you make the donation page match your organisation's branding.

Images

The header image will be cropped if the height exceeds the width boundaries to help this  image fit within the donation page. An example of how this automated cropping is below,  where the dark areas are the areas that have been cropped.

The logo image will be cropped into a circular shape and displayed just below the header image.

Donation

At the top of the donation tab you can specify header text to provide a message to donors when they view the  page.

The donation page provides options to add quick donation options for the donor to select, as well as highlighting the default selection when the donor views the page.

The donor is also able to free-type a value to replace the entered amount, so they can enter any custom amount up to £999,999.99.

Note that the minimum donation amount a donor can pay is £1. This minimum is set by the payment gateways. If you wish to set a higher minimum such as £2, simply enter this into the 'Minimum Donation Amount (£)' field.

At this point, once the donation options are set, you can click ‘create campaign’ or

Gift Aid

On the Gift Aid tab you can define whether you want to enable Gift Aid collection for this campaign or not.

If your organisation is not a charity or does not wish to claim Gift Aid then this toggle  should be disabled.

You can also specify a header title and preview how the form will look.

When a user makes a donation, the form will attempt to pre-populate with any details entered whilst the donor made payment via Stripe or Square.

Next, continue to each additional tab to modify any extra settings.

Thank You

Define a header title and thank you text to display on this page.

If ‘collect emails’ is enabled within the ‘Email’ tab then an additional button ‘stay up to  date’ will be displayed. If the users click this they will be taken to the email page.

Email

This page allows you to enable email collection.

You can also define header and subscription text to display messages to donors as they  are about to subscribe.

You can attach a URL link to a privacy policy and/or terms and conditions which the user  must accept before they can click the ‘Subscribe’ button. These URLs should be the full  URL, including ‘https://’ or ‘http://’, eg. https://www.organisation.com/privacy-policy

Currently emails are collected and stored by GiveTap and can be exported from the Reports section.

Email thank you

Once a donor has subscribed to the mailing list they will be presented with this page. You can provide header and completion text.

You can also provide a website URL which will generate an additional button ‘visit our  website’. This URL should be the full URL, including ‘https://’ or ‘http://’, e.g.  https://www.organisation.com/.

Pledges

The pledges tab allows you to create animated pledge moments, ideal for gala events. Use the following guide to learn more: https://givetap.helpscoutdocs.com/article/5-animated-pledge-page

Generating QR codes for your campaign

By default, all campaigns will have one QR code generated when you complete the campaign creation. To generate more, click the 'Generate More QRs' button and enter the amount you need. Please note, the system will only allow you to generate up to 1,000 at a time per campaign. This is because the QR codes are generated in the browser and is in place to protect your browser's performance. If you need more then please generate them in batches or contact us on support@givetap.co.uk.

Every QR code you generate will have a unique ID number for that campaign. These are created sequentially from ID '1' onwards. For reporting purposes you can also give each QR code a name and a custom short URL that people can type to access that donation page.

Download QR codes to a zip folder

Your QR codes can be downloaded to a zip folder by clicking 'Download QR's'. You will need to unzip this file in order to access all of your QR codes. They will be PNG images in a folder, accompanied by a CSV file that lists all of your QR code IDs, names, file names and URLs.

End QR codes

Ending a QR code will prevent further donations from happening when a user scans that particular QR code. You can end all QR codes on a campaign by clicking the top 'End QRs' button, or you can end individual QR codes by clicking 'End' next to the QR code. The 'Status' column will tell you whether the QR code is 'Active' or 'Ended'.
