Generate QR Codes
This guide shows you how to create and manage the QR codes for a single campaign from the campaign view in the GiveTap admin portal. From the "QR ID list" section you can generate brand-new QR codes, register externally-printed QR or NFC tags, download the QR artwork, rename a code's short URL, and filter the list. You can generate up to 1,000 QR codes per campaign in the portal. If you need more, contact us and we'll generate them for you. A few other things to keep in mind: External tags must be registered by their slug (slugs are case-sensitive) and they represent physical artwork that already exists, so they are left out of downloads unless you tick "Include externally-registered tags". If you would like GiveTap to print and post physical QR or NFC stickers for you, that is done by email rather than from this screen (see the "Order QR/NFC Stickers" note on the campaign view).
Before you start
- You are signed in to the GiveTap admin portal.
- You have an editor-level role on the charity, as the "Generate More QRs", "Add External QRs" and "End QRs" buttons only appear for editors.
- The campaign you want to work on already exists and is visible under /dashboard/campaigns.
- For external tags: you already have the printed QR or NFC artwork and know its slugs, supplied by your third-party printer.
Steps
- Go to the QR + Card Reader section and open the campaign you want to work on by clicking 'Details'. Scroll down to the section headed "QR ID list", which lists every QR code currently attached to this campaign.
- To create new QR codes, click "Generate More QRs". A "Generate QRs" modal opens.
Note: If you do not see the "Generate More QRs" button, your account does not have editor-level access on this charity. Ask an administrator to grant it.
- In the "Generate QRs" modal, type how many codes you want into the "Number of QRs to generate" field, then click "Generate". When it succeeds you will see the message "QRs have been generated", and the button changes to "Close".
Note: You can generate up to 1,000 QR codes per campaign in the portal. If you need more, contact us and we'll generate them for you.
- Close the modal and check the list. Each generated QR appears as a row showing its QR ID, the Date Added, an editable Name, the QR image, and a Status of "Active".
- To register QR or NFC tags that were printed by a third party, click "Add External QRs". The "Register external tags" modal opens.
Tip: In the text box you can paste slugs one per line, comma-separated, as a range like ex001-ex050, or even full donation URLs (the slug is pulled out for you and duplicates are ignored). A live preview shows how many tags will be registered.
- Paste your slugs into the text box and click "Register Tags". The results show how many were "Registered" and, if any could not be added, a "Failed" list with the reason for each.
Warning: Slugs are case-sensitive and must match the physical artwork exactly. External tags stand for stickers that already exist in the real world, so GiveTap does not create new artwork for them.
- To download QR artwork, click "Download QRs". In the "Download QRs" modal, optionally tick "Include externally-registered tags", then click "Download".
Note: Externally-registered tags are left out of the download by default because their physical artwork already exists. Tick "Include externally-registered tags" only if you genuinely need them in the file. This option only appears when the campaign actually has external tags.
- To give a QR a friendlier web address, use the short-url generator in that QR's "Short URL" column to create or rename its short URL. You can also type directly into a row's "Name" field to label the code.
- If the campaign has external tags, use the "All", "Internal" and "External" filter buttons above the table to narrow the list to just the source you want to review.
- To have GiveTap print and post physical QR or NFC stickers, do not use this screen. Instead follow the "Order QR/NFC Stickers" note on the campaign view: email support@givetap.co.uk quoting the campaign ID shown there. You can also download the QR list and apply it to your own materials.
You're done when…
- After generating, you saw the "QRs have been generated" message and the new codes appear as "Active" rows in the QR ID list.
- Any external tags you pasted show in the "Registered" results and appear in the list (you can confirm them with the "External" filter).
- Clicking "Download" produced a file containing the QR artwork, with or without external tags as you chose.
