Zapier Integration

Zapier lets you connect GiveTap to more than 8,000 other apps without writing any code, so things like donor thank-yous, spreadsheet logging and Slack alerts can happen automatically. This guide shows you how to open the Zapier integration in your GiveTap dashboard, start building a Zap, and authorise the connection. One important thing to know up front: your Zapier connections are managed inside Zapier, not in the GiveTap dashboard. The GiveTap Integrations page simply gives you a Zapier card with a 'Build your first Zap' link and a few popular templates to get you started. You will create and authorise the actual connection over in Zapier itself.

Before you start

  • You are signed in to your GiveTap charity dashboard with an account that can see Settings.
  • You are on the Plus plan or higher
  • You have a Zapier account, or you are happy to create one for free when prompted (a free Zapier account is fine to start with).
  • You know which other app you want to connect GiveTap to, for example Google Sheets, Slack, Mailchimp or Gmail.

Steps

  1. In the GiveTap dashboard, go to Settings and open the Integrations page
  2. Find the card headed 'Zapier' and click anywhere on its header row to expand it. The card opens to show a 'Build your first Zap' button and a list of popular templates.
  3. Click the 'Build your first Zap ↗' button. This opens GiveTap's page on Zapier in a new browser tab, leaving your dashboard open behind it.

Tip: Prefer a ready-made starting point? Under 'Popular templates' you can click any template such as Google Sheets ('Log every donation to a spreadsheet row'), Slack ('Post a Slack message for each new donation') or Gmail ('Send a personalised thank-you email'). Each one opens in a new tab with the Zap part-built for you.

  1. In the Zapier tab, sign in to Zapier (or create a free account) if you are asked to. When Zapier prompts you to add GiveTap as an app, choose to connect GiveTap and follow the GiveTap sign-in screen to authorise the connection. This is the GiveTap OAuth step, and it is how Zapier is allowed to read your GiveTap data.

Warning: Connections are managed inside your Zapier account, not in the GiveTap dashboard. The GiveTap Integrations page cannot show whether a connection is live, so always check and manage the connection itself from within Zapier.

  1. Build your Zap by choosing a trigger and an action. A trigger is the GiveTap event that starts things off, such as a new donation. An action is what happens next in the other app, for example adding a row to a spreadsheet, sending a thank-you email, or posting a message to Slack.
  2. Follow Zapier's on-screen prompts to map the GiveTap details (such as donor name, amount and campaign) into the fields of your chosen app, then test the Zap. When you are happy with the test result, turn the Zap on in Zapier.

You're done when…

  • The Zapier card on the Integrations page expands and shows the 'Build your first Zap' button plus the 'Popular templates' list.
  • Clicking 'Build your first Zap' (or a template) opens GiveTap's Zapier page in a new tab.
  • In Zapier you have added GiveTap as an app and completed the GiveTap authorisation so the connection appears in your Zapier account.
  • Your Zap has a GiveTap trigger and an action in your chosen app, the test passes, and the Zap is switched on.
