GiveTap Payments - Mobile App

Overview

Our mobile app is a convenient way to accept donations in-person at your fundraising events. It's available on iOS and Android and will work with most smartphones running the latest version of their operating system.

The app works with campaigns that are built in the QR + Card Reader section of our admin panel. It will display all of these campaigns, allowing you to control:

  • Branding and colour scheme
  • Donation amounts
  • Text throughout the donation flow
  • Gift Aid data collection

The app works with the following card readers and payment methods:

  • Stripe BBPOS WisePad 3
  • Tap to Pay on Android and iPhone
  • Square Reader

In addition to the above, a version of the app will also run directly on the Stripe S700.

Signing in

To sign into the app, simply enter your account email address and password. If you have forgotten your password, click the link at the bottom of the form.

To select a campaign click ‘Settings > Switch Campaign’ and select the relevant campaign from the list as seen below:

Connecting to Stripe BBPOS WisePad 3:

Turn on your BBPOS WisePad 3 and ensure it’s within three metres of the smartphone. Click ‘Pair Bluetooth Reader’ on the Settings menu (see below) inside the GiveTap app and you will be prompted to enable Bluetooth and location services. Please grant the app access to Bluetooth and location services. Failure to accept either one of these will prevent you from processing payments.

Software updates:

The BBPOS WisePad 3 can only update its software when paired with the GiveTap app. When you first connect to the device our app will check whether the device software is up to date and trigger an update if not. Updates can be as short as 30 seconds or as long as 10 minutes. You will see a pop-up notification on-screen if an update is required along with a progress bar. Please ensure that the device has at least 50% battery remaining and do not disconnect during this process. Disconnecting at any point will result in the update restarting.

Connecting to ‘Tap to Pay’ payments

Tap to Pay works on iPhone and Android devices and allows you to accept a contactless payment using only your phone. You can accept payments by credit card, debit card, smartphone or smart watch.

Requirements:

Tap to Pay on iPhone:

  • iOS 16.4 or later
  • iPhone XS or later

Tap to Pay on Android:

  • Android 11 or later
  • Must be an NFC enabled device
  • Must have a hardware backed key store

Tap to Pay on iPhone has no transaction size limits. If a donor wishes to give more than the UK contactless limit (£100) with a credit or debit card, they will be prompted to enter their PIN on the phone screen.

Tap to Pay on Android can only accept donations up to £100 at a time as it does not have a PIN function. Donations over this amount will consequently fail. In the event of a payment failure donors will be shown a QR code on-screen to donate online instead.

To enable Tap to Pay please select ‘Tap to Pay’ in the payment method settings and then click ‘Enable Tap to Pay’.

The app will do a series of checks during the enablement process:

  • Check that your software and hardware are compatible for Tap to Pay
  • Check that your phone has a hardware backed keystore
  • Checks for other security vulnerabilities

Once the app has completed the enablement process, the circular button on the bottom navigation menu will turn orange, allowing you to enter the donation flow.

Accepting a donation

Once you have chosen the campaign, select whether you would like to use the ‘Standard Flow’ or ‘Fast Flow’.

  • Fast flow: No donor name or email address is collected in the flow unless Gift Aid is accepted. This flow is optimised for speed over data collection.
  • Standard flow: Donor first name, last name and email address are mandatory on each donation. An email receipt is automatically sent to every donor.

Next, click the orange circle on the bottom navigation bar to bring up the donation flow as seen below.

Here you can select the amount that the donor wishes to donate or click ‘Other amount’ and manually enter the amount into the box at the bottom. Next, click ‘Continue’.

On the second step of the Standard Flow, you will have the option to enter the donor’s:

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Email Address

If you selected the ‘Fast Flow’ during setup, you will not see these fields; instead, you will be taken directly to the Gift Aid screen if enabled in the campaign setup.

On the next stage, you will have the option to select whether to Gift Aid the donation. If you select ‘No’ you will be taken to the payment screen. If you click ‘Yes’ you will be taken to a further stage where you can enter Gift Aid details. Next, click ‘Continue’.

Taking payment via Stripe BBPOS WisePad 3

Once a donor’s details have been entered, please click ‘Continue’ and you will see a Stripe payment screen and a message ‘Payment sent to the reader’. The amount will now be visible on the BBPOS WisePad 3 screen.

You can now ask the donor to tap their card against the reader or enter the card into the reader for chip & PIN payments. If the payment is done via Chip & PIN please enter the PIN on the device keypad.

Upon completion of a successful payment the user will be directed to the ‘Donation Summary’ screen. This screen provides a breakdown of the donation including donor details, donation amount and Gift Aid details.

An email receipt will automatically be sent upon landing on this page if you’re using the Standard Flow.

Taking another donation

You can click ‘New donation’ to start the donations flow again or wait 15 seconds and the app will automatically redirect back to the start of the flow on its own.

Tracking your donation income

You can monitor how much you’ve raised by selecting ‘Statistics’ on the bottom navigation menu. You will be able to see the following stats:

  • In Total

  • In the last week

  • In the last month

  • In the last year

To toggle between these statistics you can use the drop down on the right-hand side.
